Troia is a Peninsula and is one of the most beautiful coastlines of Portugal, with a 13km stretch of pristine sands, crystal clear waters and pine forested sand dunes.

Troia was the site of a major Roman fish-salting settlement and currently has a reputation for exclusivity, unspoiled beaches and peaceful forests.

Much of the territory is set within the confines of a nature reserve, the Natural Reserve of Sado River, a protected wildlife heaven with a wealth of bird-watching possibilities and also popular for its resident community of dolphins, whose charcoal-grey dorsal fins can often be seen scything the water's surface from Troia's nearby shoreline.

The pier on stilts in Carrasqueira is some hundreds of meters long and it is considered a work-of-art of popular architecture, built in the 1950s and 60s on irregular wooden stilts, apparently fragile, where the local fishing boats dock - Great site for photoshoots.
